CABMN YOUTH CENTRE CELEBRATES POTTON’S HERITAGE AND CULTURE, DAY 5 . . .

“A SACRED PLACE”

A huge part of our heritage here in Potton is diversity.
We display diversity in most things we do here in our township.
A great example of this is the “Holy Transfiguration Russian Orthodox Skete”
The property was purchased by Metropolitan Vitaly (Ustinov).
He was assigned to serve first, western Canada where he established a few monastic communities. He was moved and promoted to The Bishop of Montreal and Canada when he made a trip to Potton and decided our landscape was worthy of creating a monastery here with his brotherhood.
The monastery is comprised of 4 main buildings, a temple and a cemetery which were gifted to the brotherhood by the cathedral parish of Saint Nicholas.
Vitaly passed in Magog at the age of 96 and is buried on the ground he deemed very sacred.
His grave can be seen near the temple facing southward.
This building is NOT really meant as an attraction and does belong to someone.
I ask that you please try to enjoy this piece of history from a distance or virtually on this post since I can’t give you permission to be there or know who could.
Diversity at its best. The Russian Monastery still stands elegant in it’s being and boasts an impressive view from all angles (from the road 😉 ).
