International Day of the Volunteer

December 5, 2018, on the occasion of the International day of the Volunteer, the CAB gave a resounding thank you to some 66 of its volunteers who accepted the invitation for cocktails at the Mansonville CAB.

The CAB team presented the third annual Karen Muzerall Memorial Award for lifetime volunteering in the betterment of our community to two recipients: Jeremy Eldridge & June Peacock.

Support to Organizations

Support is given to organizations in a community perspective. Any step taken leaves the targeted groups full responsibility and leadership over their future.

This support may be professional (leadership, consultation, training, volunteer referrals, etc.) or technical (photocopy, secretarial services, etc.).

Support to organizations is aimed at:

  • Analyzing the organizations’ needs
  • Organizing and coordinating responses to these needs
  • Recruiting volunteers
  • Training volunteers (administrators and others)

Organizations can now submit requests for volunteers. Their needs are now being sorted and organized following a standardized job description. This allows us to have a clear picture and to better match volunteers to the volunteers request. As the volunteer coordination at the CAB grows, we are on a mission to expand our volunteer base to better represent all of the communities we serve, and to involve more people in the joys and benefits of volunteering.

Individual Services

Through its individual services activities or those of its member or associate organizations, the volunteer centre takes an active part in improving the individual and collective quality of life, by promoting the autonomy of individuals and their maintenance in their natural surroundings or by promoting the development and integration of various groups into the community. It is thus called to intervene on behalf of a varied clientele.

Individual services are aimed at:

  • Maintaining and improving the autonomy of persons living at home
  • Supporting an individual’s natural network
  • Offering advice and support to isolated individuals encountering a problem
  • Promoting the quality of life

Volunteer Week

Thursday, April 14, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Municipality of Potton, with the aid of its Community Animator Trish Wood, and in collaboration with the Missisquoi North Volunteer Centre (CAB), celebrated volunteers at its 7th Annual Potton Volunteer Party held at the Mansonville Town Hall.
National Volunteer Week, this year from April 10 to 16, is held to recognize, celebrate and thank Canada’s volunteers; Potton’s celebration was one such event that went all-out to salute the positive volunteer support it receives from its citizens. It also featured bagpiper, Michael Darney, who uniquely welcomed more than 100 volunteers as they arrived.
Refreshments were both delicious and abundant, all purchased from local businesses and served buffet style; wine and non-alcoholic mocktails were also available, the latter served by the CAB’s SADD group (Students Against Dangerous Decisions).
Music for the event was provided by Marcel Puize, Jean Marc Bourgeois and Rachelle Bégin, who performed in both French and English; the trio’s rendition of Hallelujah had the crowd singing along.
Mayor Louis Veillon thanked the many who were representing the various organizations that make Potton such a “happening” place. “Volunteers” he noted, “are one of our township’s greatest assets. And our ‘people power’ is what allows for so many things to happen in our small rural community.”
Fiona Campbell, CAB President, also expressed her gratitude not only to the Volunteer Centre’s own, but also to the many volunteers from other organizations.
The happening included a Power Point presentation of the contribution made by volunteers in the past three years. Overall, the event brought many positive comments as being one of the best over the years.
