This past summer, I was approached by (local fireman) Shannon Derby and (preventionist) James Bouthiller to boost interest in fire safety among our youth programs.
While our local fire department wishes to attract new members to their team and increase awareness of the possibilities/careers in fire safety; they also wanted to target younger age ranges for our village to show a complete understanding on what it takes to keep everyone safe.
With this information, Eleanor and I put our younger groups to the test this week; to determine who would be our most likely “future firefighter”.
Our 3 challenges included:
-Fireman Party: youth are challenged to see how many candles they could put out (with one blow).
-Search and rescue: a rendition on hide-and-seek.
-Wall break: youth must smash through paper wall with prop axe (least amount of strikes wins).
Congratulations to Collin and Jacob for being our “most likely to be a firefighter”
