Norma Clifford has been involved with the CAB Youth Centre for almost 20 years now. She faithfully volunteers every week, mostly in the kitchen and at special events, but at one time she also helped run the weekly boys and girls groups.
On top of donating her time, Norma is a super star at fundraising. The CAB SADD group (Students Against Destructive Decisions) started holding annual “Rock-a-Thons” as its major fundraising event 14 years ago. Since then, Norma has personally raised more than $11,000! For several years now she has been “stuck” at $950, but this October she finally reached her goal and raised over $1,000 for one event.
There is an indirect benefit to Norma’s fundraising efforts as well – some of the youth set out each year to try to beat the amount that she raises. To date, none of them have earned the coveted bragging rights, but a few have come quite close. This amicable competition inspires all to do their best and ultimately benefits the SADD programs even more.
“I couldn’t have children of my own. I love children and wanted to be around them, so volunteering was my way of doing that,” says Norma, who is a reliable helper, a devoted volunteer, and a trusted friend.
At this year’s Rock-a-Thon, the SADD group nominated Norma as an honorary SADD member and presented her with her very own SADD t-shirt and a plaque, which now hangs in the kitchen at the Youth Centre.
The CAB recognizes Norma’s outstanding generosity and thanks her for all of her hard work and dedication. We hope she will continue to be part of the CAB family for many years to come.
