The actions of Murielle Parkes transformed the linguistic relations in Quebec and in Canada, when, for the benefit of her children and others, she fought to make the French Immersion program a reality. Implicated in the educational sector, she has also been a force in supporting persons with learning disabilities. She was co-founder, in 1969 of a committee for children with learning disabilities and fought for over ten years for the rights of these children and their parents. In 1982, Murielle and the Minister of her Church founded the Eastern Townships Citizens Advocacy; now known as the Missisquoi North Volunteer Centre. She is the Chairperson of the Ken Jones Centre committee that is mandated to work with adults with an intellectual deficiency. Murielle continues with optimism to work to strengthen and aid her community.
