Hügelkultur is a horticultural technique where a mound constructed from decaying wood debris and other compostable biomass plant materials is later planted as a raised bed.
Similarly, Lasagna gardens are no-dig, no-till gardens, created by layering organic materials wherever you want to make a new garden.
Yesterday, the kids in our agriculture club were tasked with creating such a garden bed at Ethan’s farm. They then moved on to germinating some seeds with their own, homemade potting mix at the Youth Centre.
Big thanks to Gwynne Basen (Abbondanza Farm) for sharing her knowledge of putting something on the land with me and thereby: our groups.
