Networking and solidarity at Stanstead-Township

On June 9th the first Forum on services to seniors was held in the Municipality of Stanstead-Township. It is with great excitement that I awaited this innovative event. Agencies and services to seniors in the Memphremagog MRC responded in large numbers as 11 of them were present. Twenty citizens of the community assailed them with questions.

As I think of this day, the first words that come to mind are solidarity and networking. I warmly thank all the exhibitors

– The Municipality of Stanstead Township (our partner)

– The RH Rediker volunteer centre

– Service Canada

– La cooperative de services à domicile Memphrémagog

– The CIUSSS-CHUS (CLSC)

– The Sureté du Québec and the Pair Program (Patrice police that everyone knows)

– Dira Estrie

– The Alzheimer Society Estrie

– The information center for seniors (Of course, Charles Laurin was present)

– The Table of seniors in the MRC Memphremagog (The President, Micheline Roberge is a citizen of this town and made us the honor of his presence)

– L’Appui Estrie

unnamed

I must emphasize the presence of Ms. Judy Bachelder, a citizen of  Stanstead Township who advertised this activity through its info-letter. These citizens, mostly anglophones had specific questions for our exhibitors and our booth was literally robbed of Information Center for seniors.

The objective of this activity is to raise awareness of the services offered for seniors and ensure that the people of this beautiful town of the MRC use a bit more of these services which are achieved. Hélène Hamel, Community Development Officer and Ms. Francine Caron-Markwell mayor were satisfied with the result of this activity.

I could see that solidarity between the MRC associations and the citizens of Canton de Stanstead is exceptional. Stating as an example,  the Community of Georgesville’s network is close-knit and dynamic.

The communities of Fitchbay and Georgesville (the two localities make up the municipality of Stanstead Township) in the fall will have access to information sessions on various topics related to senior services. Thank you again to everyone.
