At the beginning of the fiscal year, Coordinator Ethan Ball and Animator Eleanor Cote decided to restructure the program format.
Over the course of its existence, the Youth Centre has gone through many phases including:
-A time to cherish,
-A time forgotten and respectfully,
-A time to fall apart.
We looked at foundation, the core of all we do, and changed our mission to “Building young leaders together.
To avoid giving groups “free time” to go adrift, we decided to keep a tight rein by beginning groups earlier (often supplying hungry youth with breakfast and a challenging thought to start our mornings) and continued certain programs in the day (having lunch and going for a walk).
Having this extra time to think out our motives helped spark interest and give us an idea of how we would gear the rest of our maiden programs.
We now operate on the basis that, we must always keep busy, and while together, present the best attitude possible.
We worked on the structure, sent out invitations to youth who had previously taken part in Youth Centre programs and formed four groups.
SADD: High school Students
MAYO: Mansonville Elementary School students
JAM: École le Baluchon students, and
Reading Club: Anyone!
Today, we can proudly announce the following:
- SADD numbers have doubled from last year and will increase in 2021.
- While in the past, it was difficult to maintain interest with the youth, we now have 30 (+ another four in 2021) who attend the Youth Centre weekly.
- Each week, 20 other youth (ages 5-12) receive a book delivery and return another for loan to someone else.
- We have raised thousands of donations – in cash, items, and services rendered – from different individuals and enterprises who believe our new mission is worthwhile.
Our gratitude goes out to all who made it possible.
